Hi, I'm David Hitchcock the designer, maker and owner of Photofinish Jewellery.  I create stunning, colourful, handmade jewellery using photographs of leaves, butterflies and flowers to produce items that are both beautiful and easy to wear.

As featured in the Telegraph STELLA magazine 10th Jan 2021 and currently being showcased at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Winner of the Hatton Garden JewelFund in 2019 and recognised by Theo Paphitis with an SBS award in 2018.

We supply independent retailers, visitor attractions and leading galleries, including the supply of exclusive designs to Gallery Tresco, Isles of Scilly.  We were delighted to have been selected for two selling exhibitions with the National Trust (Awakening & Fading of the Light 2019)

Having worked in nature conservation for over 25 years and with a passion for photography it gives me huge satisfaction to bring this together in my jewellery with a care for the environment.

The material used for our jewellery is recycled aluminium and our jewellery is supplied in FSC certified recyclable giftboxes.

Our lead times are 3-4 weeks

  • Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plans
At every stage of Photofinish Jewellery whether making designs or as we grow we try to have the smallest impact on the environment we can. This is especially important to me after working in nature conservation for 25 years before starting to make jewellery.
    Sustainability initiatives
We use recycled Aluminium. This saves around 95% of the energy used to manufacture Aluminium from raw materials. Source: alupro.org.uk Any metal off cuts and waste is recycled. We use Sterling silver chains and ear wires. Silver is a widely recycled metal with estimated recycling rates of more than 50%. Taking only pictures we leave nature where it should be. We do sometimes take autumn leaves home to photograph on a light box and then we compost them. The sanding pads we purchase and use for smoothing the edges of our jewellery are offcuts that would otherwise have gone to landfill. We use local small suppliers where possible. We use plain cardboard boxes to post out orders in small letterbox friendly parcels. Thus reducing the delivery miles of missed deliveries. Business cards printed on recycled paper too.
    Pledges for the year
We hope to through a charitable partner to plant a tree for every piece of jewellery sold from January 2021. We need to move our website to do this and we are working on that now.
    Sustainable Products

    AT THE FAIR
    NEW TO THE FAIR
    Social equity at your company
I am a self employed artist, designer working from home in a safe environment. Where possible I will buy from small independent businesses like myself. We like to help the community by donating auction prizes, paying to attend events run by local organisations and charities. Many of our stockists are charities so and sales help their causes too. We have also run offers where we donate a percentage of sale to a local hospice.
    Packaging
    Our packaging is plastic free
    Our packaging is compostable
Our packaging is made with recycled content
In 2020 we found a supplier of FSC certified gift boxes. These gift boxes are also recyclable.
    Materials
We have products made from recycled materials
    Our products are plastic free
