The Good Retail Awards celebrate retailers and suppliers making a positive impact in the retail industry. 2020 was a difficult year for all of us. It is our hope that the Good Retail Awards 2021 can shine a light on those in our industry who have achieved success in spite of all the challenges faced this year.

Throughout the six categories, our judges were looking for positive innovations in retail that benefit retail and your customers. This year’s edition of the awards took place in virtual form, as part of Spring Fair @Home in February 2021. Discover this years winners now on the blog!

The winners will receive industry recognition, a trophy, and a huge amount of positive PR across Modern Retail, Spring Fair, our social media channels and the wider retail industry.

Award Categories

The Good Retail Awards celebrate positive innovations in retail; this could be through strategy, creativity, the use of technology or otherwise. In light of 2020 being such a challenging year for the retail community, our categories are more powerful than ever. This year, retailers and suppliers have made such powerful transitions from offline to online and these awards are a wonderful way to showcase how the high street has adapted to this new way of working.

Sustainability Initiative Award

This award recognises retailers and suppliers that have successfully implemented sustainability initiatives within their business. These may include some of the below:

  • Material or packaging substitution
  • Reducing carbon footprint
  • Working towards a circular economy
  • Encouraging staff to recycle, reduce and reuse
  • Localised sourcing

Winner: Harts of Stur

Instore Creativity Award

This award recognises retailers who have implemented an in-store design that delivers a stand-out customer experience. It will focus on retailers who have used innovation to drive more customers into their store and increase customer satisfaction. The winner of this award will have reinvented the traditional meaning of a retail store to connect with their customers.

Winner: Wyle Blue World

The Community Award

in association with Spring Fair’s #InspiredByKindness initiative, encouraging the retail community to share your stories, advice, words of positivity and challenges with the retail community.

The Community Award is open to businesses in the retail industry, suppliers and retailers, who have made an effort to give back to their community and inspired others with kindness over the last 12 months. It honours companies who have gone above and beyond to transform and enhance the lives of others. Those shortlisted for this award will be able to demonstrate how they have made an impact and show the results they have delivered.

Winner: The Old Moat

Bricks ‘n’ Clicks Award

The Bricks ‘n’ Clicks Award recognises retailers who have utilised both online and offline channels to create a seamless customer experience. Retailers shortlisted for this category will recognise the importance of integrating all their customer-facing platforms, both physical and digital, into a true omnichannel offering.

Winner: Salamander Cookshop

Digital Impact Award

This award is open to retailers who are using the digital space to create engaging and innovative marketing campaigns. It will include retailers making a strong impact anywhere in the digital space including on their website, via email marketing and across social media.

Winner: Furniture Village

Retail District Award

The Retail District Award is open to any retail area producing innovative campaigns and exciting customer-centric initiatives to create a buzz around the retail stores in their area. Entrants for this award may include:

  • High streets, 
  • Shopping centres, 
  • Retail parks, 
  • Business Improvement Districts,
  • Local chambers of commerce

Winner: Made in Ashford
