| The jewel in Sotheby’s crown 28 Apr 2009 by Charlotte CowellJewellery lovers will be drooling at the sight of this flawless blue 7.03 carat diamond that is the jewel in the crown of Sotheby’s impending Magnificent Jewels Sale, which takes place on May 12 at the Beau-Rivage Hotel in Geneva. Cut from a 26.58 carat rough diamond that was found last year at Petra Diamonds’ historic Cullinan diamond mine in South Africa, the stone’s value is estimated at $5.8-8.5mn. Described as ‘one of the most important private collections to come to auction in recent years’, other highlights of Sotheby’s A Celebration of Taste and Style auction include a vivid pink pear-shaped diamond of 5.29 carats and a stunning unmounted yellow diamond from the property of an international collector. Signature pieces by celebrated jewelers such as Harry Winston, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels will also go under the hammer on May 12, along with a fine aquamarine and diamond parure that was formerly in the collection of Olga, Princess Paley.
