Cora + Spink make vegan and non-vegan waxed canvas backpacks and accessories... We are specialist makers of the best backpacks and small goods you will ever own. Made in small batches at our own socially and environmentally audited facilities in Kolkata, India we have been supplying retail stores in the UK, Europe and beyond for just over 3 years. We may be new kids on the block (go NKOTB) the backpacks are designed for the everyday... which means the insides of the bags are as important (or more) than the outside.

Customers love the practical and ethical nature of our products - from the audited facilities to the use of fairly traded, and co-operative sourced handwoven cotton linings designed as much for organising your life, as being hardwearing and beautiful.

For the last 2 years we have developed and sold a range of 100% Vegan products, backpacks and accessories made to the strictest of criteria on their own production line.

From cotton farm to your back, we pride ourselves on knowing everyone on the journey your backpack takes to take you on your own journey.

  • Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plans
Cora + Spink was founded to help tackle some of the issues the fashion industry faces - in 2006 Tim Johnson (founder) wrote the article - The Ecological Impact of Fashion on the Environment. After over a decade in the industry, Tim was able to form Cora + Spink and finally put all of his learnings into one whole business, not just a selection of products.
    Sustainability initiatives
Cora + Spink manufacturing in Kolkata starts with a co-operative called the Khadi Board of West Bengal - a co-operative that helps and provides guidance for 1000's of workers in the West Bengal region. We only source materials using guidance from the board. Following on from sourcing our manufacturing facilities are accredited with SA8000:2014 - a form of social audit that looks at worker safety, health and how the business operates. In 2019 with the help and guidance directly from our facilities team and management we developed a 100% Vegan product line.
    Pledges for the year
2020 is a big year for us as we look to work with the Khadi Board to spend more time in both India and Bangladesh - with a view to training and developing a team of workers to have their own facilities. Under their own management and ownership they will be able to supply not just Cora + Spink, but grow their business supplying other companies.
