Bigjigs Toys Ltd

Hall: Hall 5 Stand: 5H02

Bigjigs® Toys Ltd is a family run business, founded in 1985 in Folkestone, England. Liz and Peter Ireland are head of the family and together with their two sons, have created a global toy company which continues to go from strength to strength.

Quality has always been at the heart of what we do. From the early days when Peter hand-crafted wooden puzzles in his garden shed, to today’s large range of toys, games and puzzles, we work hard to ensure that our products are safe, long lasting and educational.

  • Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plans
Bigjigs Toys has been crafting sustainable wooden toys for almost 40 years, but over recent years we have ramped up our eco focus. We have cut down on plastic by boxing 95% of our toys in recycled cardboard and are revamping our entire collection to ensure sustainable materials are used for as many products as possible. The internal packaging of every Bigjigs Toys item has also been reviewed, and considerable cardboard engineering has been undertaken to eradicate the use of plastic packaging inside our boxes.
    Sustainability initiatives
    - All Bigjigs Toys packaging is made from 95% recycled materials, with soy inks used for printing. - We have a zero-tolerance approach to plastic packaging for all new Bigjigs Toys products. - No polythene is used whatsoever in packing customer parcels. - Biffa is our appointed Waste Management Service. All warehouse and office waste is sorted into general and recycling waste. General waste is made up of coated paper, food and pallet strapping. All paper, card, pallet wrapping, plastic and glass waste is recycled. - Less than 10% of cardboard cartons used for customer deliveries are purchased. - 5-ply inward stock boxes are reused for customer deliveries. - Any batteries used across the business are recycled. - All printer toners and cartridges are recycled. - 99% of invoices and statements are emailed – 1% of our customer base is unable to accept documentation in email format. - Our warehouse energy needs are generated by a 50kw solar system. - We implement power-saving features on all computer equipment. - Our lighting is 100% LED throughout all warehouses, offices and showroom areas. - Light-saving efficiencies are in place across the business, including timing switches in high-use areas. - Half of our company cars are now 100% electric. - Air freight is kept to an absolute minimum.
