Our mission goes beyond just upcycling—by converting discarded materials into practical, everyday items, we simultaneously foster local enterprise, generate employment opportunities, and empower communities.

 

Since our establishment in 2007, Trashy Bags Africa has successfully collected and recycled over 30 million pieces of plastic waste. Our dedication to sustainability is embodied in our Ghana-based factory, powered entirely by solar energy. This not only minimises our carbon footprint but also adds significant value to materials that would otherwise contribute to environmental degradation.

 

Our product line spans from the innovative Smart Bags, ideal for on-the-go shopping, to versatile Rucksacks, Pencil Cases, Lunch Boxes, and Giant Picnic Rugs. Each design showcases our commitment to merging functionality with sustainability, providing consumers with stylish, eco-friendly alternatives.

  • Sustainability Role in overall company's strategic plans
    Sustainability is at the forefront of Trashy Bags Africa's objectives - everything that we do is about creating a circular-economy with as little impact as possible. All our products are upcycled directly from the raw material.
    Sustainability initiatives
    We have now made our factory in Ghana completely solar-powered and along with collecting over 250,000 pieces of plastic waste every month, we are now creating a huge impact on the waste issue in Accra, Ghana.
    Pledges for the year
    We look to grown from both our plastic and fabric waste success to duplicating this across billboard and charity waste which is challenge that is currently bubbling under the surface of Africa.

    All our products are made from upcycled plastic and fabric waste. Over 1 million tonnes of unmanaged plastic waste is produced each year in Ghana, and the problem is forever growing. This has an enormous impact on living standards and public health as its leads to pollution of streets, beaches, rivers, oceans and sewage systems.
