This involves maximising the effective use of resources and fostering responsible environmental behaviour amongst staff, suppliers, customers and users at all levels. We work with suppliers who promote sound environmental practices and work collaboratively to support our customer sustainability strategies. We have established local sustainability teams in each of our business units that work together to ensure a consistent approach to sustainability, sharing ideas and information to support our strategy. IG Design Group UK Ltd has ISO 14001 certification. Our Environmental & Sustainability Policy integrates a philosophy of sustainable development into all the organisation’s activities. We design with the environment in mind and create products that remove unnecessary materials and packaging. We invest in state-of-the-art, efficient manufacturing processes and only use responsibly sourced materials, including an increasing amount of recycled materials and materials that can be fully recycled.
    Sustainability initiatives
IG Design Group UK Ltd has partnered with The Woodland Trust to participate in a fully accredited carbon removal scheme which operates under the UK Government’s Woodland Carbon Code. This scheme helps companies reduce their carbon footprint by locking up carbon emissions through planting trees. We have funded 29,250 m2 of new native woodland in the UK to ensure the CO2 emissions we create from our domestic sea freight is fully absorbed from the atmosphere and stored by trees as they grow, mitigating the impact of our import activities on the environment as part of our carbon management programme. As part of our Packaging Materials Policy, we are committed to reduce the amount of packaging used, to increase the recyclability of it and to increase the amount of recycled material in it, with a focus on reducing single-use plastics. We have removed single use plastics from our cracker gift ranges and also introduced 100% recyclable options in to our cracker ranges with keepsake contents, soya based inks, paper ties and a fully recyclable box as well as a ‘fill your own’ option giving the consumer the option of using their own choice of recyclable content. We have removed all glitter from the Tom Smith ranges of wrap, crackers and cards for Christmas 2020. We have installed electric car charging points at all our UK sites, switched to LED energy efficient lighting and no longer allow single-use plastic bottles to be used by our staff.
    Pledges for the year
We will further remove plastic packaging where possible from all our other ranges including Filing, Accessories, Craft, Educational and Christmas products, replacing with a sustainable alternative. We will also continue to eliminate unnecessary packaging and minimise materials used.
