| Coutts London Jewellery Week is launched today 08 Jun 2009 by Charlotte CowellDesigned to raise the profile of London’s creative talent and technical expertise in jewellery making and design, the seven-day event also supports emerging industry talent and reinforces the collective force of London’s world-leading jewellery industry. Some of the biggest names in the industry have opened their doors to the public, for this once-a-year opportunity to discover some of the UK capital’s hidden gems. Exhibitions include Treasure, featuring some of London’s most cutting edge designers and Creation II, which highlights the work of 12 distinguished contemporary jewellers. Other glittering events include a cocktail reception hosted by Wright & Teague on Tuesday June 9 and a charity gala dinner, The Magnificence of Diamonds, organised by London Jewellery First. On Wednesday June 10 The Goldsmiths’ Company will hold an exclusive reception featuring exquisite jewellery collections by David Marshall, Josef Koppmann and Ben Day and Argent will unveil its Young Designer of the Year at its Wandsworth Old Town showroom.Also on Wednesday the department story Liberty will showcase the Rising Gems collection in its new Designer Jewellery Room, while Theo Fennell will host a party on Thursday evening to celebrate its partnership with the Royal College of Art for the fifth year running. The Birmingham Assay Office is also getting involved, setting up a Meet the Experts valuations centre at Mappin & Webb on Regent Street on June 9 – 11. Jeweller Amanda Mansell and friends are holding the Jewellery Harmonic exhibition on June 11 – 13, where visitors can listen to the unique sounds of jewellery being made, mix their own harmony and then save it in a bracelet to keep. Elsewhere visitors can take part in the Belgravia Jewellery Treasure Hunt, where they will have the chance to win wonderful prizes from renowned contemporary jewellers. An integral part of the celebration is the Hatton Garden Festival running from June 11 - 13. This will include jewellery-making workshops and seminars at Holts Academy of Jewellery on Cross Street and an open day at Holts Lapidary, where everyone is invited to try their hand at building jewellery using the latest computer aided design software.
